Marta Miączyńska (IIMCB) and Anders H. Lund (BRIC) appointed new Chair and Co-Chair of EU-LIFE
Marta Miączyńska, Director of the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw (IIMCB), and Anders H. Lund, Director of the Biotech Research & Innovation Centre (BRIC) at the University of Copenhagen, have been appointed the new Chair and Co-Chair of EU-LIFE, the alliance of independent research institutes in the life sciences across Europe, as of 1 January 2026.
Over the next two years, Marta and Anders will work closely with Marta Agostinho, EU-LIFE’s Executive Director, to help steer the alliance’s scientific and policy agenda at a crucial time for European research. EU-LIFE’s priorities for the near future include helping shape the next European Framework Programme (FP10), strengthening research culture across Europe, advancing research assessment reform, and promoting scientific excellence and responsible research practices.
“EU-LIFE is a unique platform for amplifying the voice of research institutes at a moment when Europe must reaffirm its commitment to excellent, curiosity-driven science. I am honoured to take on the role of Chair and look forward to working with our members to foster an environment where research can flourish and where institutes continue learning from one another to continually raise standards,” said Marta Miączyńska.
“It is a privilege to step into the role of Co-Chair alongside Marta Miączyńska. BRIC strongly shares EU-LIFE’s commitment to fostering excellent research environments and strengthening collaboration among institutes. I look forward to contributing to the alliance’s efforts to improve research culture, support researchers, and collectively shape conditions that allow science to thrive across Europe,” said Anders H. Lund.
EU-LIFE will continue its work on key policy areas including the European Research Area, research assessment, and FP10. In parallel, the alliance will nurture its vibrant community, supporting scientific collaboration and best-practice exchange among its 17 member institutes.
Marta Miączyńska succeeds Giulio Superti-Furga (CeMM), who served as Chair from 2024 to 2025, following his earlier term as Co-Chair. The alliance warmly thanks Giulio for his leadership and commitment, including his efforts to strengthen EU-LIFE’s presence in European policy dialogues and expand collaborations across the alliance.
