Research software engineering day (4th edition)

Keep me posted

Research software underpins nearly every stage of modern science, from data acquisition to large-scale computation and emerging AI-driven workflows, as highlighted by the 4th edition of BE-RSE’s Research Software Engineering Day, which builds on the momentum of previous editions. As research questions grow in complexity, there is an increasing need for robust software engineering practices, transparent and reusable code, and approaches that scale from high-performance computing to resource-constrained environments.

Research Software Engineering Day brings together practitioners to address these needs across seven thematic tracks:

  • Software engineering practices in research
  • FAIR software in practice
  • Open-weight language models and lightweight ML approaches (such as tinyML and edgeML)
  • Computational challenges in the sciences
  • Research Software in the context of High-Performance Computing
  • Reproducible workflows
  • Success and Failures of LLM applications

Through talks and focused discussions, participants will explore practical methods, shared challenges, and real-world use cases.

This event is open to everyone who develops research software (code, scripts, apps, libraries, etc.), builds or automates workflows for research projects or labs or contributes to more sustainable research software and reproducible research in any way.

Join the community on 15 December to support researchers and research software engineers in developing sustainable, well-documented, and fit-for-purpose software that meets current and emerging scientific demands.
